Jacquel is a housing occupational therapist and specialist in accessible and inclusive environments. She has spent a career working with disabled and older people in their own homes and neighbourhoods so has direct insight into the barriers created by poor design. Her Housing OT roles have included housing assessments of need, property assessments and lettings, implementing Accessible Housing Registers but predominantly overseeing the design and delivery of new build accessible and inclusive housing from design concept/pre-planning through to completion. She works with key stakeholders including developers and contractors, visiting site throughout the build, attending viewings with residents and undertaking post occupancy evaluation.
Jacquel provided expertise to the Technical Housing Standards Review which led to Volume 1 Part M of the Building Regulations for dwellings and has given evidence to two Parliamentary Inquiries into older and disabled people and housing. She is a member of the Access Association and the BSi's committee B/559 an 'Accessible and Inclusive Built Environment'. She co-authored Habinteg's Wheelchair Housing Design Guide, authored the Inclusive Housing Design Guide and continues to provide written responses to Government consultations and write blogs and articles on accessible and inclusive housing design. She is a member of Habinteg/Homefinder UK's Accessible Now project and works as a consultant for Accessible PRS.
