Rompa Abstract Tactile Panel

ROMPA Stand: D24

Aesthetically charming as well as highly tactile.

A large variety of fluid shapes, raised and recessed areas, and contrasting textures make this contemporary-looking panel as pleasing to the touch as to the eye.

Textures have been carefully chosen to offer a range of temperatures, softness/hardness, and smoothness/coarseness, and they include fabric, meal, carpet, synthetic turf, and safety mirrors.

The panel is useful for colour recognition, visual perception, and discrimination. It allows different movements and the use of fine motor functions.

To be wall-mounted at an appropriate height for the user

Wooden frame

Colours and features may vary.

Size: 115 x 115cm

This panel has many uses, including:

  • exploration of the textures for enjoyment, not as part of a goal-orientated activity, so there is no pressure to achieve
  • tracing lines and visual tracking
  • stimulating conversation and an awareness of preferences, e.g. the different fabrics can encourage discussion about clothing likes and dislikes
  • imaginative play - draw your fingertips over the sticks as the explorer ventures into the forest, stroke the synthetic grass as the hero runs through the meadow ...
  • for orientation - as tactile signposting along corridors for those with visual impairments
